Modules and wear parts
Expansion-card ports can be swapped without opening the laptop. Framework also documents replacement of the battery, display, keyboard, storage, memory and mainboard. These parts have different compatibility requirements across Laptop 13 generations.
Generation compatibility
Laptop 13 covers several Intel and AMD generations. A used chassis may contain a mainboard installed by a previous owner, and not every memory, battery or display option fits every revision. Identify the installed mainboard and chassis generation, then check Framework’s compatibility notes and current Marketplace listing for the specific part.
Repair versus upgrade
A port fault may be in an expansion card rather than the mainboard. A battery replacement addresses wear; a mainboard upgrade changes computing performance and may require compatible memory or Wi-Fi parts. The installed generation matters as much as the Laptop 13 name.
