Pads and headband

Sony documents WH-1000XM5 ear-pad replacement and points to an authorized parts distributor. It says owners can replace the pads, though it recommends an authorized service centre. Sony also publishes a US offer for broken-headband repair. The offer does not establish the same service in other countries.

Battery and electronics

The rechargeable battery sits inside the headphone, while the public pad instructions cover only the external wear part. Check local Sony service for a weak battery or intermittent controls before paying for a used pair. A cracked hinge or headband is also different from pad wear and can change the repair price.

Used-headphone check

Inspect the headband and hinges, then test both sides, charging, Bluetooth and noise cancellation. Worn pads are a known replaceable part; a poor seal can mimic weak noise cancellation. Price intermittent controls or a weak battery separately from cosmetic pad wear.
